Spotlight Interview – The Grove Country Club Estates

WE ARE DELIGHTED YOU CHOSE TO BECOME A 2019 SL CHRISTMAS EXPO LIGHTS OF HOPE SPONSOR! WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO GET INVOLVED WITH THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY AND THE EXPO?
It’s a great cause and one that I support whole heartedly. Having had friends and family battle cancer the American Cancer Society is dear to my heart. They are making great strides in the war against cancer and I know that every dollar we raise goes to fight the battle. It’s great to see the donations pay off as they keep finding ways to help those that are suffering.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN SECOND LIFE? WAS THERE ANYTHING IN PARTICULAR THAT MADE YOU JOIN?
I’ve been in Second Life 9-1/2 years now. At first, I was intrigued by the role play and the beauty of it all. Meeting dear friends along the way helped make it more meaningful. I now have friends from all over the world that I interact with. Where else can you make that happen?

TELL US A BIT ABOUT THE GROVE COUNTRY CLUB ESTATES?
The Grove Country Club Estates is heading into it’s 10th year now and is a residential community offering events of all kinds. We offer a meticulously detailed, lush community that is second to none in Second life. Spanning 14 sims now, we offer upscale living at reasonable prices. And it’s not just a plot of land you set a house on. We offer many amenities that make your living here special. We are particularly proud of our Sunday live singer events where we host the best talent in Second life. We also have fun things for our residents like our Street of Dreams parade of homes, Easter egg hunts (where you find and keep Faberge style eggs!), Trick or Treat and our parade of lights Christmas decorating contest. There is also a beach and several venues including a chapel where you can get married. We’re always coming up with new things to do so it never gets stale here at The Grove!

THE ESTATES ARE SIMPLY STUNNING, THE LAYOUTS, RESIDENCES, LANDSCAPING, WHAT INSPIRED THE ITALIAN THEME AND DO YOU DO THE CREATE THIS YOURSELF?
The real-life Italian landscape and architectural style is so stunning it just had to be the inspiration for a Second Life community. It is both casual and formal giving everyone a style that will please them. As for bringing the dream to life, I have to thank my landscape artist, Natalie Rives Hawk for that. She takes the inspiration and runs with it making the most stunning landscapes that you see here today. I also have to credit the original architect of The Grove, Patch Thibaud. He set the tone and created many of the elements that we use. I also have to thank the residents for offering their dreams that we turn into reality when we landscape their homes. Also, I have to thank Kimmera Madison for her contributions which include the Greenhouse Pavilion (where we have most of our live events), the country club as well as the quaint, Tuscan style Boschetto club for smaller events.

WHAT MADE YOU BECOME A VIRTUAL ESTATE OWNER?
Five years ago, the original owner of The Grove, Umberto Giano decided to leave Second Life and wanted to see to it that the original dream carried on. I had always loved The Grove and through a mutual friend I was introduced to Umberto. One thing led to another and he trusted me to pick up the torch and carry it on. I’ve never regretted that and plan to carry the light for a long time.

WHAT’S THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN. REGARDING YOUR SL BUSINESS
Expect and embrace change. After all, time is a measurement of change so when we stop or resist change, time stops. And so does the fun. I’ve always embraced change and am always open to new things that keep The Gove thriving and beautiful.

WHAT CHRISTMAS TREE DECORATION ARE YOU AND WHY?

Oh, I’d say one of those gold balls. They are traditional and never go out of style. Like me. LOL

WHAT ONE WORD WOULD YOUR FRIENDS USE TO DESCRIBE YOU?
Congenial.

CAN YOU GIVE US A HINT AS TO WHAT WE CAN LOOK FORWARD TO IN 2020 FROM THE GROVE COUNTRY CLUB ESTATES?
Well we’re closing out this year with several Christmas events like the Mayor’s tree lighting ceremony. Then we have the Christmas party where the Muse Dance Co. will put on a very special event on the skating pond behind the Country Club. As we head into 2020 there will be our customary events along with some new things that will be a surprise. Can’t let the cat out of the bag too much! We like surprises!
